The fifth and final T20 match between India and West Indies to be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday was completely canceled due to rain. With this, this exciting five-match T20 series ended in a 2-2 draw. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer believes that if the Indian bowlers had performed a little better in the two matches of the series, the result of this series could have been in India’s favour.
Rain spoiled the excitement of the game
Due to inclement weather the match was reduced to 9 overs each. Batting first, India had scored 118 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 7.4 overs, when the game had to be stopped due to heavy rain and ultimately the match had to be declared cancelled. After the match, Shreyas Iyer said that if the team had bowled accurately in the second and fourth matches, the result would have been different. However, he praised the opposition team, saying that West Indies batted well throughout the series. Especially the performance of the visiting captain Shai Hope was excellent and the way the West Indies team bounced back even after the defeat is praiseworthy.
Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi will have to wait
Talented 15-year-old opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not get a single opportunity to make it to the playing eleven during the entire series. Talking in this context, Captain Iyer clarified that India’s opening combination is already quite strong and fixed, due to which the young player has to wait a little. He told that he constantly tells Vaibhav to focus on his process and be patient. He will definitely get his chance when the right time comes.
Challenge of New Zealand tour and performance of West Indies
The loss of the match to rain proved to be a big blow for the West Indies, as they had a golden opportunity to win the series for the first time on Indian soil since 2002. Earlier, the visiting team had lost the ODI series 1-2. West Indies captain Shai Hope, who scored two brilliant centuries in four matches of the entire T20 series, was awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ award. He admitted that his team was very close to registering a historic victory. At the same time, the Indian team is now leaving for the tour of New Zealand for the next T20 series starting from Thursday. On this busy schedule, Iyer said that Indian players are used to constant traveling and the team is handling such a schedule very well.
