New Delhi. A major change has been made in the protest system amid the continuous protests and demonstrations in the country’s capital Delhi. The Union Home Ministry has removed the historic Jantar Mantar from the list of official protest sites.
Change in 33 year old system
Jantar Mantar has been a major center for raising the voice of political parties, social organizations and common citizens for the last 33 years. However, under the new system, protests will no longer be allowed at this place. This step has been taken on the basis of the recommendations of a committee constituted by the Home Ministry.
Three new locations determined for demonstration
Now the organizations agitating for their demands have been given the option to protest at the following three fixed places instead of Jantar Mantar:
Ramlila Maidan: This ground of historical importance has already been witness to many major national and social movements.
Burari Ground: This complex of the capital has also been included in the list of new protest sites.
CBD Ground: This ground, located in East Delhi, has been decided as the third option for official protests.
Political and social reaction to the decision
After these new rules issued by the Home Ministry, agitating organizations and opposition parties have criticized this step of the government. The protesters allege that the government is taking such decisions to avoid mass movements and suppress dissenting voices, while the administration argues that this decision has been taken to maintain the system and smooth traffic.
