New Delhi. Some workers of ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) reached Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to protest with the tricolor on Tuesday morning, but Delhi Police took immediate action and took them into custody. According to the social media post of the organization, many other CJP members including Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ajinkya have been arrested by the police. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke has strongly criticized this action by posting on X tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the government cannot suppress the voice of resistance.
Demand for resignation of Chief Election Commissioner
Cockroach Janata Party is continuously protesting with a strong demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The main allegation of the party is that huge irregularities have been committed in the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. In this connection, the leaders of the organization are continuously protesting vocally and raising the demand for a transparent electoral process.
Police action from aircraft to Jantar Mantar
Earlier on October 10, CJP convenor Abhijeet Dipke, co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and chief spokesperson Saurav Das were detained by Delhi Police from inside the plane at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The next day i.e. on October 11, the three leaders were produced before the Executive Magistrate, from where they were released on a surety bond of Rs 50,000 on the condition of maintaining peace and good conduct for one year.
Controversy over removal of Jantar Mantar from the protest site
After his release, CJP had made a clear announcement of continuing his agitation. Party leaders reached Parliament Street Police Station and demanded to fix the time and date within 24 hours for a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Meanwhile, Delhi Police has removed Jantar Mantar Road from the list of authorized protest sites and has suggested alternative places like Ramlila Maidan, Burari Maidan and CBD Maidan, on which CJP has expressed strong objection and is adamant on protesting at Jantar Mantar only.
