Tension in Manipur after woman’s death, firing between Kuki-Naga groups

After this incident, tension and violent clashes have once again erupted in the violence-hit state. In view of the deteriorating law and order, the local administration has had to impose prohibitory orders (Section 163 BNSS) in the affected areas as a precautionary measure. Information about this entire matter was given by official sources on Saturday.

How did the incident happen?

According to information given by the officials, the incident occurred at around 9:35 pm on Friday night in the Kuki-dominated village ‘Chasad’ under the Naga-dominated district. It is being told that the victim, a mother of five children, was shot near her neck, due to which she died on the spot within a few minutes due to excessive bleeding.

Violence broke out after the murder and prohibition imposed by the administration

Officials said that immediately after the murder incident, a fierce face-to-face firing started between the Kuki and Naga armed groups, which continued intermittently till Saturday morning. Many residential houses were also set on fire by miscreants during this period.

To prevent further violence and disturbance in the area, the district administration took immediate action and imposed strict prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS within 400 meters of Chasad Police Gate Junction. Under this administrative order, a complete ban has been imposed on gathering of five or more people at one place, protesting and carrying weapons in the affected area.
