
Former Barcelona and Chelsea winger Pedro Rodriguez has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39. This legendary Spanish player won many big titles in his illustrious career including the FIFA World Cup, European Championship and UEFA Champions League. Pedro was not linked with any other club after leaving Italian club Lazio at the end of last season. Now he has announced his retirement via social media, saying that he felt it was the right time to start a new chapter in his life.
Historic success with Barcelona
Pedro arrived at Barcelona’s youth academy from Tenerife at the age of 17. He made his debut for the first team in the 2007–08 season. The 2009–10 season was one of the most notable seasons of his career, where he became the first player to score in all six official competitions for Barcelona in the same season. Apart from this, he scored an important goal in the Champions League final against Manchester United at Wembley in 2011.
The journey of Chelsea and other European clubs
In 2015, Pedro left Barcelona and moved to English club Chelsea and continued his success there too. After Chelsea, he also played football for Italian clubs Roma and Lazio. His last season at Lazio was 2024-25, after which he left the club.
World Cup and Euro Cup winners for Spain
Pedro’s international career has also been very brilliant. He was an important part of the historic Spain team that won the FIFA World Cup title held in South Africa in 2010. Apart from this, he also played a key role in Spain’s European Championship victory in 2012.
