During the five-match T20 series between India and West Indies, talented young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi could not get a single opportunity in the playing eleven. After the final T20 match was canceled due to rain in Bangalore on Saturday, Indian team captain Shreyas Iyer clarified the main reason for not giving a chance to Vaibhav. Iyer said that due to Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan being in excellent form at the top of the order, Vaibhav did not get the opportunity to take the field.
Shreyas Iyer’s suggestion to Vaibhav to be patient
During the conversation, captain Shreyas Iyer said that he understands well what is going through Vaibhav’s mind when he sits out after a brilliant IPL season, but at the international level many times one has to wait for his turn. He said that the team currently has two excellent openers who are scoring runs continuously and who have also played an important role in India winning the World Cup. Iyer advised Vaibhav to focus on his process, maintain a positive mindset and keep his preparation strong without worrying too much about the opportunities, because soon he will also get a chance.
How has been Vaibhav’s journey so far on the international stage?
Talking about Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s international career, he made his T20 debut against England in Manchester in July this year, although his performance in the three matches of that series was very ordinary. After this, he made a brilliant comeback in the T20 series against Zimbabwe, scoring two half-centuries in three matches and winning the title of ‘Player of the Series’ by scoring 151 runs. However, he was not included in the team against Afghanistan. In the Asian Games, he contributed 38 runs on 21 balls against Sri Lanka and 15 runs on 9 balls in the final against Pakistan.
Eyes set on New Zealand tour
After the end of this five-match T20 series, Vaibhav Suryavanshi will leave for the upcoming tour of New Zealand with the Indian team. This important series of five T20 matches against New Zealand is going to start from October 22. Now it will be interesting to see whether the captain and the management give Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance to showcase his skills by including him in the playing eleven in the New Zealand conditions or not.
