Washington. A leading Swedish telecom company has released its new report on mobile data consumption and telecommunication services around the world, according to which India has become the leading country using the most mobile data globally. This report also predicts the possibility that due to the rapid expansion of 5G technology in the country, the total number of 5G users in India will cross the 1.1 billion (1.1 billion) mark by the year 2031.
Main reasons for increase in data consumption
The main reasons behind this situation in India include the high proliferation of smartphones, availability of affordable internet packages (rates around Rs 8 to 18 per gigabyte) and increasing demand for digital services like video streaming, online gaming and social media. All these factors have led the country’s citizens to stay digitally connected for longer periods of time and use data-hungry apps extensively. Currently per capita monthly data consumption in India has reached an average of 37 GB. Although India tops the list in total data usage, neighboring China currently ranks first in terms of 5G infrastructure and total number of subscribers.
Situation in China and other countries
According to the report, the number of 5G subscribers in China exceeds 950 million (950 million), which reflects its huge market and wide network coverage. This fact makes it clear that total data consumption, number of active subscribers and network reach are different scales. Additionally, countries like Bahrain, Cyprus, South Korea and Kuwait have achieved 5G network coverage for 100% of their population, although this does not mean that the signal quality is the same everywhere or that all citizens are subscribed to it.
Per capita data consumption and internet speed
If we talk about per capita monthly data consumption, Latvia ranks first in the world, where an average of 56.5 GB data is spent per month. In this list, Saudi Arabia is at second place with 52.7 GB and Finland is at third place with 47.4 GB. At the same time, in terms of average download speed of 5G internet, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is at the forefront in the whole world, where an excellent speed of 652 Mbps is available. After this come countries like Qatar and South Korea, where speeds of 400 to 500 Mbps are being recorded. With 5G technology rapidly spreading across the world, major changes are also being seen in data consumption patterns at the global level.
