Mumbai. According to former Indian cricketer Robin Singh, there is currently a competition going on between Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sanju Samson for a place in T20 international cricket. That is a positive thing for Indian cricket. According to Robin, the Indian team is only benefiting from this type of competition. Also said that this inspires young players like Vaibhav to continuously improve their performance. It is noteworthy that after his brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Under-19 cricket, Vaibhav has attracted everyone’s attention with his performance in the senior national team as well. Now the Indian T20 team faces the challenge of choosing between Suryavanshi and Samson to open the innings with Abhishek, which Robin Singh considers a good position.
This former all-rounder has said that any young player should get enough opportunities so that he can establish himself at the international level. He said, you would not want a young player to be made to sit on the bench after playing just one or two matches. I think those days are gone now. Robin stressed that players should be given time to understand the environment and pressure of international cricket. He said that Suryavanshi has immense talent, and even if he has to wait on the bench for some time, there is no harm in it, because other players have also performed exceptionally well in recent times. Robin further said, therefore, it is a good thing to have competition. It is a good thing that people keep pressure on you, so that you do not make any mistakes in your performance.
It is noteworthy that Vaibhav made his debut in international cricket on 4 July 2026 in a T20 match against England. Of the 18 T20 matches played by India since his debut, Vaibhav has got a chance to play only in 8, which shows that the selectors are slowly adjusting him to the team. Sanju Samson, on the other hand, has performed impressively in recent times. After a stellar performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, he showcased his form by scoring two brilliant half-centuries in the T20 series against Afghanistan. After this, Samson has presented his strong claim by playing an excellent inning of 82 runs in the T20 match played against West Indies in Ranchi.
During the recent Asian Games held in Japan, India had given a chance to both Suryavanshi and Samson in the team. However, at that time the playing eleven included just one fast bowler and several spin-bowling all-rounders, as the pitches there favored spin bowlers. But now, when more fast bowlers are being included in the final, Vaibhav is not getting the opportunity to open the innings with Abhishek and Samson.
