Big shock to the cinema world, Nana Patekar passes away; A memorable journey from ‘Parinda’ to ‘Welcome’

Goa. The Indian cinema world has suffered a huge shock. Well-known and veteran actor Nana Patekar died at around 5.20 am due to a heart attack at his residence in Goa. This sudden incident has created a wave of mourning among his fans and the film industry. To save him, CPR was given continuously for forty-five minutes by the doctors and medical team, but his life could not be saved. Dr. Shekhar Salkar, head of the oncology department of Manipal Hospital, Goa, said that all efforts were made to revive him after he suffered a serious cardiac arrest at home. A medico-legal case has been registered in this entire matter and his post-mortem will be conducted as part of the further process.

Extraordinary acting journey and early life

Vishwanath Patekar, the world’s favorite Nana Patekar, was born on January 1, 1951 in Murud-Janjira in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Apart from being a big name in the world of acting, he was also a skilled filmmaker, director and writer. He started his acting career with the film Gaman in the year 1978. After this, he proved his art in both Marathi and Hindi cinema. Mira Nair’s film Salaam Bombay, released in the late eighties, gave a new identity to her work, and then the 1989 film Parinda gave a historic turn to her career. He was honored with the National Film Award and Filmfare Award for his powerful role of a dangerous gangster in this film.

The film Krantiveer, released in the year 1994, proved to be the biggest milestone in Nana Patekar’s acting career. Earlier, he had also been awarded the National Award for Parinda and later for Agnisakshi. During his entire artistic journey, he received a total of three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards and two Filmfare Marathi Awards. In view of his invaluable contribution to art and cinema, he was also honored with the country’s prestigious Padmashree award in the year 2013.
