The whole matter is related to an old style photograph of Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe, prepared by Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the picture, Monroe was seen standing outside an old hotel in 1950s attire, but with a modern smartwatch on her wrist. On social media, users were asked what was strange in this 1950s photo? Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif replied to this post by simply writing ‘watch’ and also shared a smiling emoji.
Strong reaction and trolling on social media
Even though the Defense Minister’s reply was technically completely accurate, people were angry on social media over his timing amid the delicate situation in the country. Users reacted sharply and raised the question that when the entire country is facing economic recession and security related challenges, then how does the Defense Minister of the country have time to look for watches in the pictures of actresses on the internet? After all-round criticism and trolling, Khwaja Asif deleted his post, but by then its screenshots had gone viral on social media. This incident has once again raised serious questions on the priorities of responsible leaders holding public positions.
